dZI (pronounced Zee) is a Tibetan word to describe a patterned agate bead of mainly cylindrical or tabular shap. In Chinese it is called "Heaven's Bead" . This name is from the legends that have been passed down over the centuries in Tibet. A benevolent god took pity on the humans and used its powers in Heaven to protect men from an evil spirit that caused plagues and disasters causing the beads to fall from Heaven. Those whose good fate it was to obtain one would thus be protected from misfortunes and all kinds of evil.
Dzi bring good karma to those who own them . Dzi can be etched black-and-white or brown-and-white, with symbols comprised of circles, ovals, square, waves stripes, lines and various other symbolic patterns. To the Tibetans, each of these symbols represents a specific meaning. Tibetans believe dZi beads to possess the power to bring about good influence associated with protection, prosperity, attracting wealth, fostering good health and ward against evil.
Both old and new Dzi beads are made from agate, the difference is when they were etched. Ancient beads were etched a few thousand years ago. Modern dZi beads are recently etched. Agate is one of nature's precious gifts to mankind and has been well accepted as a stone that radiate good energy.
